Pre-study modules Online

September start date: July / January start date: November

Before the start of your programme, you will be expected to complete online pre-study modules. These ensure that all students, regardless of undergraduate degree background (or equivalent) are prepared for the programme.

Pre-study modules will be delivered via Canvas our virtual learning environment (VLE). They include primers in key areas including careers, data analysis, finance, maths, plagiarism awareness, and economics.

Please note that some modules are compulsory while others are strongly recommended.

Induction Week On campus

On-campus | September or January depending on start date

The compulsory Induction Week in London will be the first opportunity to meet your cohort. Here, you will lay the foundations of your MBA experience and enjoy plenty of time to connect with your classmates through various activities and events.

During your five-day induction, you will attend several lectures, discussions, and exercises introducing you to the programme. You will also be able to book sessions with our Careers team to help you plan and develop your career goals.

Core modules

Core modules provide a strong foundation in business administration, building on your previous experience and equipping you with essential skills in leadership and management. They challenge you to approach problems at a higher level, teaching you how to lead in complex environments.

Corporate Finance

Year one: Terms one-three

Corporate Finance will extend your understanding of company valuation and investment appraisal. It will also introduce the concept of the cost of capital and how it can be calculated. You’ll learn how companies are financed and how to decide between different types of finance.

The module:

  • provides a framework for analysing financial markets and showing how they interact with the key decisions of firms;
  • enables you to understand the role of assets, pricing, and the interaction between the economy and financial variables;
  • provides information regarding the two key financial instruments (stocks and bonds);
  • introduces the key derivatives markets (futures and options);
  • examines Portfolio Analysis and the risk return trade-off;
  • introduces the concepts of risk and return in financial markets and the relevance of diversification;
  • explores how return is related to risk through the Capital Asset Pricing Model.
Financial and Management Accounting

Year one: Terms one-three

A critical skill for business leaders is to understand the language of accounting and master financial analysis in day-to-day and strategic decision-making.

This module will focus on the use of accounting for financial reporting and financial management, explaining the techniques of both financial and management accounting, and examining their relevance to the broader issues of decision-making and management control in organisations. The module will give you insights into the way business performance is measured, and how business decisions can be structured and analysed using accounting data.

Managerial Economics

Year one: Terms one-three

This module starts with microeconomics, building models of supply and demand and how they interact to determine market prices. We explore situations in which governments typically intervene to change market outcomes. We will study price-setting by firms with market power, and strategic interaction using the approach of game theory.

The module then analyses the macroeconomic backdrop against which businesses and government operate. We will conclude by discussing the role of monetary policy in steering the economy.

Marketing Management

Year one: Terms one-three

Marketing is the primary contact point between a business and its customers and nearly everybody will, at some point in their career, wear a marketing hat.

This module develops a general management viewpoint in planning and evaluating marketing decisions. You'll learn from both strategic (e.g. market selection, firm objective, etc.) and tactical (e.g. promotion, pricing, etc.) perspectives.

Organisational Behaviour

Year one: Terms one-three

This module covers major factors that shape organisational behaviour and effectiveness. As you complete this module, you will learn concepts and skills across all the levels of analysis we do to explain organisational behaviour, and you will gain facility with skills at each level that you need to integrate—seamlessly—into your day-to-day work and leadership.

In this module, you will build up your OB toolkit and skills for using it in your work and beyond. This includes:

  • growing your abilities to analyse and diagnose organisational threats and opportunities;
  • staying in and solving hard problems when many teams would give up or turn on each other;
  • being a decision leader and change maker who makes a difference in the world, while also looking after yourself.
Strategy

Year one: Terms one-three

Strategy, at its most general, refers to the purposeful allocation of resources in a competitive environment, over relatively long periods of time, in the pursuit of specific goals. Strategy is shaped by the underlying market conditions as well as the resources available to management (including the firm’s internal structure, systems and culture). This integration of the external and internal perspectives provides the basic framework for strategic thinking.

The module is structured to combine principles, cases and real-life practical experience.

The strategy module:

  • gives you a holistic view of the firm;
  • helps to develop your ability to think beyond day-to-day business activities;
  • challenges you to ask the right questions about a firm’s future.
Personalisation

Once you have completed the core modules you will have a menu of choices to personalise your learning, with flexcore and elective modules and the opportunity to specialise further with one of our optional concentrations.

Flexcore modules

Flexcore is a set of four key online modules. You will choose at least two flexcore modules and may take more, which will reduce the number of elective modules you need to complete.

You will study flexcore modules from the third term of the programme if you choose the fast-track (21 months) option, and from the second year if you choose the standard (24 months) or extended (32 months) options.

Business Analytics

Year two: Terms one-three

This module is about turning data into actionable insights, leading to well-informed decisions for complex business problems. You will hone your skills in using Excel spreadsheets to build a model of different business situations, recognising their essential features and accounting for uncertainty. You will be able to apply this to many different disciplines, from finance to marketing and operations.

Corporate Innovation

Year two: Terms one-three

In this module we focus on the theory and best practices of creating new technologies, products and businesses. You will gain a rich understanding of the complexities of managing innovation in established companies, and explore the critical role that an entrepreneurial mindset and innovative thinking play in creating opportunities for growth and renewal.

Entrepreneurship

Year two: Terms one-three

This module introduces you to the different aspects of entrepreneurial thinking, specifically when it comes to innovative businesses. You will explore the concepts of design thinking, technology and innovation as well as business modelling in nascent markets. You will also gain an understanding of entrepreneurial finance and leadership, and legal arrangements, such as term sheets and shareholder agreements.

Leadership

Year two: Terms one-three

This module will help you become more aware of your personality traits. You will begin with diagnosis using questionnaire assessment exercises. We will analyse our strengths and weaknesses as leaders through introspection and reflection on our traits, habits and behaviours. We will then build on this knowledge to improve your leadership practice through self-development, and learn how to tackle future challenges effectively.

Electives

We offer a large portfolio of electives, allowing you to explore new avenues or specialise in an area of particular interest. You can choose between online and on-campus options. For on-campus modules, you will join students from across our MBA programmes.

You will complete four elective modules, unless you have chosen to take more than the required two flexcore modules.

You will study electives from the third term of the programme if you choose the fast-track (21 months) option, and from the second year if you choose the standard (24 months) or extended (32 months) options.

Please note that our elective portfolio is reviewed and updated annually and so elective offerings are subject to change.

Programme content FAQs

How much time would I need to devote to study?

We recommend a minimum of around 20-25 hours of study for a typical week. Note that this depends on your pace of study and academic goals. This will include recorded and live lectures, reading, assignments, group discussions and activities, case studies, projects and careers support.

How exactly shall I organise my week?

This will vary for each student. However, the expected commitment hours per module is usually around 190 hours (for the total module). This takes into account taught classes and individual study around the classes. This will vary more in the second year, depending on which elective modules are chosen.

How many live lectures will there be?

There will be five to eight live sessions per module, delivered at 10.00hrs, 13.00hrs and 18.00hrs (UK time) for 60-90 minutes for online core modules. At least one session per week can be expected, but there will likely be more. Flexcore and elective module live classes are typically held at 10.00 and 18.00 (UK time) only. Ad-hoc classes may also be scheduled, depending on the module.

I鈥檓 worried about the time zone difference; how will this work for live lectures?

Live sessions will take place at 10.00hrs, 13.00hrs and 18.00hrs (UK time) for online core modules. With the cohort largely made up of international students, this accommodates different time zones.

What is the breakdown of assessment methods on the programme?

Each module has a different weighting of coursework, exams and projects. Most modules will have some coursework as part of the module assessment with an exam towards the end of the module.

When do I have to decide the duration I want to complete the programme in?

You will begin the programme with the assumption that you will complete the 24-month version of the programme. However, if you wish to opt for a longer or shorter programme, you will make this decision in the second term.

When do I have to choose my concentration?

As with choosing the length of the programme, you will also choose your concentration in the second term.

Does the Capstone module take place on-campus?

Yes, the Capstone will take place on-campus.

Can I take part in Induction Week online?

The programme Induction Week is a compulsory in-person element of your Business School programme. You are required to attend on campus in London.

I am concerned that an online degree does not look as prestigious as a normal MBA. Will this be stated on my certificate?

On completion of the Global Online MBA, you will receive an ImperiaMBA certificate. Your degree certificate will not mention the mode of study.

The academic standards and rigour of our online MBA are consistent with our campus-based and blended MBA programmes. The key difference is that the delivery format allows flexibility and enables a more international cohort.

海角社区's Global Online MBA is ranked number one in the world by the QS online rankings 2026. This demonstrates the world-class reputation of this programme and its faculty, teaching and employability.

Are there any open days I can attend?

The Business School holds online information sessions throughout the year. These give you opportunities to learn more about the programmes from the Programme Director, current students and alumni. Please refer to the Recruitment events and webinars page to find out when the next event is being held for the Global Online MBA.

What we look for

We are looking for well-rounded, motivated candidates who can bring more to the table than just a strong academic record. Our ideal candidates are ambitious and proactive individuals with a particular interest in the power of technology and innovation and with the determination to make a real difference in the world.

We look for students who can leverage their networks and resources, demonstrating promising leadership potential and a track-record of driving innovation and collaboration.

What could set you apart from other applicants?

Career planning questions

You will need to write about the sector you are interested in working in, your ideal employer, role and country. This requires research, reviewing job specifications for potential roles and researching employers that you may want to work for to show us how a Global Online MBA will truly benefit you and your career.

Personal statement

We encourage you to be authentic, and don’t simply write what you think we want to hear. We value diversity and we want to find out what you would contribute to the cohort and the Imperiacommunity.

Finessing your CV

It is important to keep it simple and use a clear format. You should use your CV to highlight professional and academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and international experience. One of the things we are looking for is evidence of career progression, so make sure you highlight any promotions or increases in level of responsibility.

Admissions and entry requirements FAQs

What are the international entry requirements?

We accept a wide range of international qualifications for postgraduate study at 海角社区.

We review our requirements annually. Updates usually happen in September each year before the next academic year of entry.

If your country or region is not listed, please contact the relevant Admissions team for further information.

Do I need to submit Graduate Admissions Test results with my application?

GMAT / Executive Assessment / GRE is not required for admission to this programme.

However, if you have already sat or intend to take GMAT (old or new test), Executive Assessment or GRE, you are welcome to submit your results. This may add weight to your application, particularly if you feel your degree does not reflect your academic potential.

How do I submit my official Graduate Admissions Test results?

To submit a GMAT or Executive Assessment score, you must request for it to be shared with ImperiaBusiness School online using the code S22-7S-16. Please note that you do not need to send a hard copy unless requested.

To submit a GRE score, you must request for it to be shared with ImperiaBusiness School online using the code 0121.

How long will you accept the old GMAT Exam results for?

GMAT Exam scores will remain valid for five years from your appointment date.

When will I receive a decision on my application?

We have a series of admissions rounds throughout the year. For more details about application and decision deadlines please refer to our key dates and deadlines above.

My application has been unsuccessful; can I have some feedback?

Please email the Recruitment & Admissions team if you would like feedback on your application. Please note that whilst limited feedback can be provided, the decision of the academic selectors is final. It will not be possible for your application to be reconsidered.

Can I defer my offer?

You may request to defer your place for one academic year by writing to the Recruitment & Admissions team.

Deferrals are considered on a case-by-case basis and in order to be considered for a deferral, payment of the tuition fees deposit is required. Where possible, requests to defer should be submitted no later than three months before the programme start date.

Please be aware, if you defer your place your tuition fees and deposit amount may differ from the year you applied in and any scholarships granted cannot be carried over.

Can I use Executive Education courses for credit on my Global Online MBA?

Yes. If you have completed and successfully passed the Mergers & Acquisitions or Private Equity programmes offered by ImperiaExecutive Education within the last three years, you can have your certificate accredited towards a Global Online MBA. If credited, this will replace one elective module option. You will be entitled to a discount of 5% (stackable to a maximum of 10%) applied to the Global Online MBA fees.

Please note, successful completion of the Executive Education programme does not guarantee admission to the Global Online MBA and you will need to apply using the standard application process.

As an international student, what type of UK visa will I need to join this part-time MBA programme in London?

If you are coming to Imperiafor a short period of study, and you do not already hold immigration permission that allows you to study the in-person requirements of the course, then you may need to enter the UK under the Standard Visitor route.

The Standard Visitor route allows students to come to the UK for a period of up to six months in order to undertake a short course of study. If you are offered a place on the programme, our team will provide all the relevant visa information and guide you through the process. Additional information can be found on our Visas and Immigration page.

Can I apply for a Student Visa to complete this programme?

Students on this programme do not qualify for sponsorship under a Student Visa, as it is designed for professionals who are already working in some capacity. All international students taking these courses will have to undertake any face-to-face elements on visitor permission (unless they already hold some other form of permission to be in the UK).

Scholarships

ImperiaBusiness School is pleased to offer significant scholarship funding to our most talented applicants. A range of scholarships are available, including several dedicated schemes for specific programmes, and it is recommended that you apply early to give yourself the best chance of receiving an award.

Please be aware that scholarships may not be awarded following every round (e.g. if scholarships in a particular category have all been awarded or there is an insufficient number of eligible candidates in a given round).

Scholarships terms and conditions

If you are offered an ImperiaBusiness School scholarship and are subsequently offered a larger award by us, the larger one would supersede the first award and would not be in addition to it. Scholarships awarded by ImperiaBusiness School are in the form of a reduction of the tuition fee. Therefore, if you receive another scholarship that pays the full tuition fee directly to 海角社区, you cannot also receive a scholarship from the Business School.

Nothing on this website is or shall be deemed to constitute, financial advice or a recommendation or endorsement in respect of any financial product. You should always check the suitability of the product that is of interest to you. If you are in any doubt as to its suitability, we suggest that you seek independent professional advice. Apart from certain circumstances, deposits are not refundable if you fail to take up your place in the programme. You can find out if you qualify for a refund and the process for requesting a refund on 海角社区’s postgraduate deposit information page.

Global Online MBA Executive Education pathway

If you have completed the Mergers & Acquisitions or Private Equity programmes offered by ImperiaExecutive Education within the last three years, you can have your certificate accredited towards a Global Online MBA. If credited, this will replace one elective module option. You will be entitled to a discount of 5% (stackable to a maximum of 10%) applied to the Global Online MBA fees.

This is subject to successful completion of the programme with a pass and admission to the Global Online MBA programme via the standard admission process. Successful completion of the Executive Education programme does not guarantee admission to the Global Online MBA.

Paying your fees

Full information on how to pay your fees will be communicated after you have accepted your offer. To secure your place, a deposit of 10% of the tuition fee is required. This is part of the full tuition fee and not an additional cost.

Tuition fees cover:

  • the length of the programme
  • core reading and study materials

Fees do not cover:

  • accommodation and expenses
  • costs incurred as part of optional internships or exchanges
  • supplementary texts and study materials
  • Careers Club membership (£10 per club for the year)

Receiving your invoice

You will receive an email invoice from the Tuition Fees team and will need to pay the 10% deposit within 30 days of receiving this invoice. Failure to pay this in time may result in your offer being withdrawn.

Making your payment

You can pay your MBA tuition fees in one instalment per academic year, or in two instalments per academic year as set out in a Regulated Credit Agreement - this option is only available if you are self-funding. Further information on paying in instalments can be found in our postgraduate payment terms.

Fees and funding FAQs

Is the tuition fee amount different if I choose an earlier or later exit point?

Tuition fees are the same regardless of your chosen duration.

I鈥檇 like more information regarding the CPD loan, who should I contact?

Please contact the Tuition Fees team with any queries you have regarding the Careers and Professional Development Loan.

What information do I need to provide to Imperiaif I am being sponsored by my company?

You will need to provide us with an original, dated and authorised letter that confirms the following:

  • your name and College Identifier Number
  • the full name and entry year of the programme for which you have been offered a place
  • the amount of fees which will be paid by your sponsor
  • the full name and address to which the invoice should be sent
  • any Purchase Order number required for payment to be effected
  • confirmation that the fees will be sent directly to 海角社区

You will need to email a copy of this letter to tuition.fees@imperial.ac.uk copying business.school@imperial.ac.uk into the email. Please note that until your sponsorship award has been formally confirmed by your sponsoring organisation and accepted by 海角社区, your tuition fees will remain your financial responsibility.

I am being fully sponsored; do I still need to make a deposit payment?

You will be responsible for paying the deposit until we receive a sponsorship letter that confirms that you are being sponsored for 100% of the tuition fee payment, and this has been reviewed and approved by the Tuition Fees team. If you do not pay the deposit within the deadline you risk losing your place.

If you pay the deposit before we receive the sponsorship letter confirming full funding, you will be entitled to a refund for the amount you have paid.

My company is offering a tuition fee reimbursement scheme, how does this work?

If your company is paying the fees directly to you for you to make payment to us, then the agreement is between you and your company, not you and 海角社区. We do not need to receive a sponsorship letter from you.

My company is offering a salary sacrifice scheme, how does this work?

This will be an agreement between you and your company. We do not need to receive a sponsorship letter from you.

Can I still apply for scholarships if I am being sponsored by my company?

Yes. Scholarships are awarded as a reduction to your tuition fees so you can still be considered for a scholarship if you are being sponsored by your company.
