Admissions and entry requirements FAQs

When do applications open for this course?

The application timetable for 2027 entry applications can be found on the UCAS website on .

When do applications close for this course?

Wednesday 13 January 2027 at 18.00 (UK time). You can register for updates on the process by signing up to our mailing list.

Are there any GCSE requirements for this course?

There are no specific GCSE requirements for this course. However, we may consider your GCSE grades when assessing your application and will review these alongside other areas. You should not be put off if you do not have strong GCSE grades; excelling in your A Levels / equivalents is the more important area in terms of achievement.

If you have extenuating circumstances related to your GCSE results (or more recent qualifications) your referee can outline this in their reference.

If you are relying on your GCSE English Language to meet 海角社区's English requirements, you will need to have achieved a grade B / grade 6, or else meet these requirements through another accepted test or qualification.

What are the international entry requirements?

We accept a wide range of qualifications for entry to undergraduate study at 海角社区.

You can find full details of the international entry requirements for this course online.

If your qualification is not included, it might not be accepted for entry. You can contact the Recruitment & Admissions team to check.

My country is not represented in the international requirements. Am I eligible?

We welcome students from all over the world and Imperiahas a standard system for converting different country systems into A-level equivalents. You can find details online.

If your qualification system or country is not listed, it may be that we would require you to complete qualifications from another system, such as Advanced Placements, however you can contact us and we can review your specific query.

Do I need an economics, finance or computer science background to apply?

No. The only subject specific requirement is Mathematics.

We will teach you all the economics, finance and data science that you need to know to be successful on our degree - we assume there's no prior ability in any of these subject areas when you start our degree.

However, in the application process, we do expect you to demonstrate your knowledge and interest, and curiosity about the integration of our three subjects.

From how far back will you accept my IELTS scores?

Imperiaconsiders IELTS scores to be valid for two years. Scores must be valid at the beginning of your studies at Imperiaif your application is successful.

Is there any difference between the October UCAS deadline and the January deadline?

There are no advantages to applying by the October deadline, used by Oxford and Cambridge, over the January deadline. All applications received by the January deadline will be considered equally. However, we do not consider late applications received after the January deadline.

Please note, whenever you choose to submit your UCAS application, it is still a requirement that you register for and sit the TMUA test, ideally in October.

If I get an A* in Further Mathematics but an A in Mathematics, can I get in?

Our minimum requirement is that you get an A* in Mathematics. Further Mathematics is not a substitute for this. Applicants who do not meet their offer conditions will enter a reconsideration process, but acceptance here is dependent on many factors and is not guaranteed.

What is the TMUA maths test?

The Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA) tests your mathematical thinking and reasoning skills.

The TMUA lasts 2 hours 30 minutes in total. It is divided into two parts: Applications of Mathematical Knowledge, and Mathematical Reasoning. You will not be able to use a calculator or dictionary. There is no pass or fail for TMUA. You should aim to do the best you can. Your final scores are based on the number of correct answers you give. You do not lose marks for wrong answers, so it’s worth attempting all questions.

Your prior maths knowledge will be useful, but there may be areas which are less familiar to you depending on your experience. Revise what you have learned so far and familiarise yourself with the test content, including practice tests, on the provider's website.

Find out more about the test

How do I register for the TMUA maths test?

You take the TMUA within a test centre.

You can choose from a global network of test centres in more than 5,500 locations in over 180 countries.

Visit the website, where you will be able to:

  • create an account
  • find your nearest test centre
  • book and pay for the test
Are the minimum grade requirements different for students from a widening participation background?

If you meet 海角社区's criteria for widening participation applicants, you will get an automatic invitation to interview if you have predicted grades of AAA including an A in Mathematics at A-level or equivalent, and have a competitive TMUA score.

We do not have a cut-off for the TMUA score, we view this as one aspect of your application and will holistically review all aspects of your application.

The interview will be used to discuss your motivation for our degree and to find out more about your potential to enjoy and succeed on our degree. If your application is successful, any conditions contained in a potential offer will be determined following the interview.

Whilst the requirements to be shortlisted for interview are lowered, any potential offer may still be at our standard level of A* Maths and two other A grades for A Levels (or equivalent).

Can I submit a separate personal statement for this course?

No. We understand that our programme is unique and other economics/finance courses do not incorporate data science like we have. We advise you to read our blog written by a member of the academic faculty on how to write a personal statement.

Do you consider candidates who have retaken one or more subjects?

We will consider applicants who have retaken subjects. As part of completing your UCAS application, you are required to provide a complete academic record which is true and accurate. We will be looking at whether you've managed to improve on your previous grade, and whether your newest predicted or achieved grade is realistically achievable and meets our minimum entry requirements.

If you have any extenuating circumstances, your referee can detail this in their reference in your UCAS application.

Do you accept transfers from other programmes / institutions?

Due to the unique nature of this programme and our admissions process, we do not accept transfers.

Is there an Offer Holder Day?

Yes. The BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science Offer Holder Day gives applicants with an offer the opportunity to learn more about our campus and facilities, meet Imperiastudents and staff and find out more about studying at Imperiaand life in London.

What is a CAS number and how do I get one?

If you require a student visa to study in the UK, you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from Imperiafor your visa appointment. You will not need to request a CAS, simply follow the application process and we will generate a CAS when you are eligible to receive one.

To get it, you will need to:

  • have met all of the conditions of your offer (have an unconditional-firm status);
    have indicated that you require a Tier-4/Student-route visa;
    complete and verify your information on our partner service, Enroly CAS Shield, when asked to do so via email;
  • have provided us with a colour copy of the passport that you intend to make your visa application with. This will need to be uploaded on your MyImperiaportal;
  • if you are under 18 years of age, you must have completed/submitted the minors' declaration. Please ensure that you allow enough time to meet your conditions and apply for a visa before the start date of your programme of study.

Please bear in mind that the central Admissions Office are extremely busy over the summer months and will be processing CAS's as quickly as they can. Please be patient during this time and do not keep emailing to ask where your CAS is as this will only delay the process further.

Ensure that you allow enough time to meet your conditions and apply for a visa before the start date of your programme of study.

For advice on completing your Visa application once your CAS has been issued, please visit the International Student Support team webpages.

Do you provide support through the visa application process?

Imperiahas an International Student Support team who can help you with your visa application and any immigration queries you have.

Scholarships

ImperiaBusiness School is pleased to offer significant scholarship funding to our most talented applicants. A range of scholarships are available, including several dedicated schemes for specific programmes, and it is recommended that you apply early to give yourself the best chance of receiving an award.

Please be aware that scholarships may not be awarded following every round (e.g. if scholarships in a particular category have all been awarded or there is an insufficient number of eligible candidates in a given round).

Scholarships terms and conditions

If you are offered an ImperiaBusiness School scholarship and are subsequently offered a larger award by us, the larger one would supersede the first award and would not be in addition to it. Scholarships awarded by ImperiaBusiness School are in the form of a reduction of the tuition fee. Therefore, if you receive another scholarship that pays the full tuition fee directly to 海角社区, you cannot also receive a scholarship from the Business School.

Nothing on this website is or shall be deemed to constitute, financial advice or a recommendation or endorsement in respect of any financial product. You should always check the suitability of the product that is of interest to you. If you are in any doubt as to its suitability, we suggest that you seek independent professional advice. Apart from certain circumstances, deposits are not refundable if you fail to take up your place in the programme. You can find out if you qualify for a refund and the process for requesting a refund on 海角社区’s postgraduate deposit information page.

Applicable scholarships

Home tuition fees

It is current Imperiapolicy to charge Home fees in line with the Government’s fee cap. The UK government announced its fee caps for the 2027–28 academic year to be £10,050.

You should expect a rise in your fee each year. As soon as we know what this will be for 2028–29 academic year and beyond, we will publish it on our course pages.

Fees and funding FAQs

What do my fees cover?

Your fees cover the full cost of your tuition for the year. When planning your finances you should also consider the additional unavoidable costs that your fees do not cover, including:

  • cost of accommodation, travel and living expenses in London;
  • core reading texts, supplementary texts and study materials;
  • contributions towards travel costs of any core programme trips or activities.

Other costs will depend on your lifestyle choices, hobbies and interests, and will include:

  • costs incurred as part of optional internships, exchanges or trips;
  • membership of one of our Careers Clubs, charged at £10 per club for the year.
How do I know which fee I pay?

Whether you pay the Home or Overseas fee depends on your fee status. This is assessed based on UK Government legislation and includes things like where you live and your nationality or residency status. Find out how we assess your fee status.

What funding is available?

If you're a Home student, you can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan from the UK government to cover the entire cost of tuition for every year of your programme.

You can also apply for a means-tested Maintenance Loan to help towards your living costs.

Will these fees increase?

The fees shown relate to the year of entry advertised only. You should expect and budget for your fees to increase each year. Find out more about our tuition fees payment terms, including how inflationary increases are applied to your tuition fees in subsequent years of study.
